Bridges that Unite Concludes Successful Run in Kitchener-Waterloo
Events Sparked Vital Conversations about Canada's Role in the World
Kitchener, ON, May 12, 2009 - The BRIDGESTHATUNITE exhibition, presented by Aga Khan Foundation Canada, wrapped up a successful month-long run at the Children’s Museum of Waterloo Region, this month, welcoming more than 5,000 visitors and global thinkers of all ages.
Featuring the remarkable 25-year partnership between Canada and the Aga Khan Development Network, the exhibition provided a unique platform to continue a vital conversation about Canada’s role in the developing world with community leaders, civic organizations, elected officials, educators and students from the region.
Highlights of the programs that accompanied the temporary exhibit included From Kitchener to Kabul --a powerful performance of music from Afghanistan, film-screenings and vibrant conversations about community empowerment held in the exhibit’s ring of chairs.
Partnership events with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), the Canadian International Council - Waterloo Region (CIC), Tamarack - An Institute for Community Engagement and Canada’s World, among others, showcased the region’s remarkable range of experience, expertise and innovation on global issues.
At the conclusion of the exhibition, Khalil Z. Shariff, Chief Executive Officer of Aga Khan Foundation Canada said: “The conversations we’ve had in Kitchener-Waterloo, against the backdrop of the Bridges that Unite exhibition, have demonstrated once again that Canadians -- students, experts and ordinary citizens alike – are keen to chart a way forward for Canada in the world.”
Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network is presenting the large-scale, bilingual exhibition, which began its successful cross-country journey in Victoria with tour stops in Calgary and Vancouver.
