About the artist: Vaheed Kaacemy, who presently makes his home in Toronto, is one of Afghanistan’s most popular singers. Born in Kabul into a distinguished family of musicians, he is the grandson of the great classical vocalist Ustad Qasim Afghan and the nephew of Ustad Yaqob Qasimi, from whom he received his training. A versatile performer with an extensive repertory, Vaheed Kaacemy has researched and collected music throughout Afghanistan and performs ghazals, folk songs, and instrumental tunes as well as his own compositions. His many recordings for Afghan radio and television over the past thirty years have won the hearts of three generations of listeners.
